Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 14, 2026
This page explains what information Chord Compass collects, why, and how it's used. If you have questions not answered here, reach out via the contact details at the bottom of this page.
Information we collect
- Account information — name, email address, phone number, and role (student or teacher) when you register or are invited.
- Payment information — fee and transaction records processed through Razorpay. We do not store your card, UPI, or bank details ourselves; Razorpay handles and secures that data.
- Google account information — if you sign in with Google or connect Google Calendar, we receive your Google profile (name, email) and, with your permission, calendar access used to create lesson events with Meet links.
- Lesson content — schedules, uploaded videos, PDFs, sheet music, and practice progress associated with your account.
- Technical data — device/browser type, IP address, and log data collected automatically for security and reliability (e.g. rate limiting, fraud prevention).
How we use your information
- To provide the core service: scheduling lessons, tracking fees, delivering course materials, and running the interactive sheet-music and practice tools.
- To send transactional communications: OTP verification codes, password resets, and lesson/schedule notifications by email.
- To maintain security: authenticating requests, detecting abuse, and rate-limiting suspicious activity.
- We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
Third-party services we use
- Google OAuth & Calendar — for sign-in and, where authorized, calendar/Meet scheduling.
- Razorpay — for payment processing.
- Google Cloud Storage — for storing uploaded videos and PDF course materials.
- Gmail SMTP — for sending OTP and password-reset emails.
- Each of these providers has its own privacy policy governing how it handles data on our behalf.
Cookies and local storage
- We use your browser's local storage to keep you signed in (storing your session token) and to remember preferences like playback volume. We do not use third-party advertising or tracking cookies.
Data retention
- We retain account, lesson, and fee records for as long as your account is active, and as needed to meet legal, accounting, or dispute-resolution obligations after that.
Your rights
- You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data by contacting us using the details below. Some information (such as fee records required for accounting purposes) may need to be retained even after a deletion request.
Children's privacy
- Chord Compass is a music academy platform used by students of varying ages, including minors, typically registered with a parent or guardian's involvement. We only collect the information described above as necessary to provide lessons and manage enrollment.
Changes to this policy
- We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "last updated" date below.
